Asus has built a nice piece of hardware, not as powerful as my WRT though, but has really exciting features like bittorrent support ,FTP, printer , scanner sharing , NAS etc and costs just over INR 3000.
Network setup was not as smooth as I thought it would be, after upgrading the firmware to 2.0.0.9 and utilities to 4.0.9.1 my net link was up and running. Happy that initial setup was complete I tried getting my hands dirty with the download manager but with no luck, was able to get it work after a bit of struggle.
Below is a short how-to for enabling pc-less downloading, enjoy!
Note : Turn off the PC and router firewall , disable USB and FTP share
- Make sure you have upgraded the router's firmware to 2.0.0.9 ( latest while writing).
- Format the thumb drive you plan to save the downloads to using FAT-32 ( NTFS is not supported)
- Download the following zip and extract the .apps contents on the drive's root.
- Connect back the thumb drive [ I havent tried it with external HDD, so not sure if it supports it ] to the router and connect the download manager to it, gIFT daemon should now work.
- Load a torrent using the windows utility to the router and you're good to go ..
